Top 5 Debunking Myths Surrounding Massage

Debunking Myths Surrounding Massage | Zarifa USA

Over the years, massage has become much more than a once and a while splurge. Just like anything that gains popularity over time, myths have developed about massages. Instead of wondering whether a myth is true or not, we’ve decided to debunk some of the more persistent ones so you can start your new year off on the right foot.

Myth One: There’s Only One Kind of Massage

This is one of the most common myths. There are many types of massages, and they all do different things for your body. We have Shiatsu massagers for sale, which can help with anything from tension and stress to migraines, and TENS/EMS units, which focus on acupuncture points to treat a variety of ailments. Some other types include Swedish massages, deep tissue massages, and stone massage. Each of the different massage types can help with different trouble spots on your body.

Myth Two: Massages are For Pampering

Massages are primarily designed to help with relieving tension and soreness in your muscles. That has led to a misconception that massages are only for pampering yourself. Massages can do so much more. Just to name a few examples, regular massage can help alleviate migraines by hitting different pressure points and interrupting pain signals to your brain. Massages can also lessen the effects of anxiety and PTSD. So, rather than viewing them as a once-in-a-while “treat,” many people embrace them as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Myth Three: You Can’t Get a Massage During Pregnancy

According to ECPI University, it was once thought women who had a massage while they were pregnant could experience early labor. However, that’s not the case. Massage can be beneficial at any point during pregnancy, according to the  American Pregnancy Association. However, it is important to do your research and choose the right form for you. For example, we don’t recommend our EMS/TENS units for use during pregnancy. The American Pregnancy Association recommends finding a certified prenatal massage therapist.

Myth Four: Pain After a Massage is Normal

This one is tricky because people perceive pain differently. Typically, a little soreness or tenderness is expected after a massage. However, if it’s more than that, that’s not normal. Talk with your doctor to find out if something else is happening in your body.

If you’re feeling extreme comfort during your massage, let your massage therapist know or adjust your home massage device. Massage is supposed to work out areas of your body that are sore, but if it’s outside of your comfort zone, it’s best to ease up.

Myth Five: The Effects of Massages are Temporary

Many people love the way they feel after a massage because tension spots have been worked out. However, they don’t like the way that the effects seem to fade after a massage. But there’s good news: the results of a massage aren’t temporary. While you may feel like they fade, your muscles have their own memory, and they’re working on remembering the way they feel after you have a massage. Over time, you’ll notice that the tension points that once bugged you don’t do so as much.

If you were on the fence about how massages can help you because of the myths you’d heard, hopefully, this dispels any of the doubts you had. Just remember that massage is more than just helping you feel good and that it can do so much more. Visit our website and check out our massagers and accessories. Zarifa means “the one that moves with grace” in Arabic, and we believe that regular use of massage can help with that.
